Itinerary - Machu Picchu in One Day: Explore the Lost City of the Incas

Full-Day Machu Picchu Tour by Train: Magical Inca City Adventure

  • Departure from Cusco - The Adventure Begins

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 3:30 AM to begin the trip. A 1.5-hour drive through the Sacred Valley will take us to Ollantaytambo, where the next leg of the adventure awaits.

Around 6:00 AM, we’ll arrive at the train station and board a scenic train bound for Aguas Calientes. Over the next 1 hour and 40 minutes, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Andes and the winding Urubamba River—a perfect introduction to the beauty of the region.

  • Arrival at Aguas Calientes - Welcome to the Town

We will get to Aguas Calientes between 7:30 to 8:30 am depending on your train ticket schedule. The vibrant atmosphere of this town will give you a warm welcome.

Our team will be at the train station to meet you, and depending on your arrival time, you’ll have a chance to enjoy a light breakfast before we continue our adventure.

After breakfast, we’ll board the Consettur bus for a thrilling 30-minute ride uphill to the entrance of Machu Picchu.

  • Entrance to Machu Picchu - Discover the Mystery

Once we arrive, we’ll enter Machu Picchu and start exploring its fascinating history and stunning architecture with our guide. You’ll visit some of the most iconic spots while learning about the site’s rich cultural significance.

For those looking to add an extra challenge, you can opt to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for even more incredible views.

  • Return to Cusco - End of the Adventure

After exploring Machu Picchu, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes by bus. You’ll have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (we’d be happy to recommend some options) or stroll through the town’s charming streets before we head back.

We’ll say goodbye to Aguas Calientes and board the train back to Ollantaytambo, where a private minivan will be waiting to take us back to Cusco in about 1.5 hours. (Please note that this schedule can change depending on your preferences and train tickets times)

  • Arrival in Cusco - Until Next Time

We’ll arrive in Cusco in the evening and drop you off at your hotel. With plenty of memories from the day, we’ll say goodbye for now and look forward to seeing you on future adventures.

    See you soon, explorers!

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • The weather in Aguas Calientes: Contrary to what many might think, the weather in Aguas Calientes is more humid and warmer than in Cusco. During the day, temperatures can reach 25°C, and at night they can drop to 13°C. It’s recommended to bring lightweight clothing.
  • If you’re booking during the November to April season, you should be prepared for cloudy and rainy weather, so packing appropriate clothing for these conditions will ensure a better experience. The positive side of this season is that you’ll find a more vibrant and lush landscape.
  • Be flexible, as conditions can change rapidly. Keep a positive attitude and enjoy the experience, even with rain! Machu Picchu can be even more mysterious during the rainy season, as its mist-covered landscapes give it a special touch.
  • On the other hand, if you’re visiting during the dry season, from May to October, you’ll find deep, clear blue skies, strong sunshine, and drier landscapes.
  • If you wish to avoid rain, we invite you to check the weather forecast in advance to plan your trip while considering all variables.
